What is a Apprenticeship?

Apprenticeships let you work and earn a salary while training toward a recognised qualification. At GVNC, you’ll spend most of your time working in veterinary practices in London or wherever local to you, while also attending planned lessons, online learning and in-college sessions. Upon successful completion, you’ll qualify as a Veterinary Care Support Assistant or a Registered Veterinary Nurse.

How Our Apprenticeships Work

Earn while you learn

During your apprenticeship, you’ll be paid from above the apprenticeship wage through to the national minimum wages based on apprenticeship level and age.

Hybrid learning model

Most of your time will be spent working in practice, with structured weekly online and in-college learning sessions.

Real world experience

You’ll be placed in one or more of our partner vet practices and supported by clinical supervisors to develop practical skills.

Dedicated clinical skills centre

Gain confidence and competence in a purpose-built training environment.

Level 2 — Animal Care and Welfare (Veterinary Care Support Assistant)

Achieve a Level 2 qualification in Animal Care and Welfare while completing your apprenticeship as a Veterinary Care Support Assistant. Equivalent to GCSE level, this course is ideal for those starting their career in animal care, with no prior qualifications required — just a passion for animals and good communication skills.

Entry Requirements:
– No specific qualifications required
– Must be aged 17+ and eligible to work in the UK

Level 3 — Diploma in Veterinary Nursing (Small Animal Pathway)

For those aiming to become a Registered Veterinary Nurse (RCVS). You’ll gain the practical and theoretical skills needed for the profession.

Entry Requirements:
– Minimum of five GCSEs at grades C/4 or above, including Maths, English and Science (or equivalent)
– Experience in animal care is beneficial but not mandatory

Where will I work?

You’ll be placed in one or more of our partner veterinary practices and hospital sites around the UK, with placements made where possible in your preferred region.

How much time is spent studying?

Typically, you’ll spend around four days a week in practice and one day on lessons or study.
