Student Life

Life as a GVNC Student

Being a student at GVNC means more than working towards a qualification — it means being supported, understood and encouraged at every stage of your training. We recognise the realities of balancing study with work in a veterinary practice, and our approach to student life is built around flexibility, wellbeing and practical support.

From your first day through to qualification, you’ll be part of a learning community that puts students first.

Student Support

Academic Support

You’ll be supported by experienced tutors, personal tutors and cohort leads who understand veterinary practice and the demands of training. Support includes guidance with coursework, assessments, exam preparation, and developing confidence in both theory and practical skills.

Teaching is delivered through hybrid or remote teaching models, combining on-site sessions, online learning and workplace training, with clear structure and regular feedback.

Support in Practice

At GVNC, we work closely with veterinary practices to ensure every student receives consistent, high-quality support throughout their training.

Our dedicated team works alongside Clinical Supervisors and mentors in practice, providing regular visits, progress reviews and tailored guidance. This collaborative approach ensures you develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to succeed, while feeling supported both in college and in the workplace.

Wellbeing & Pastoral Support

We understand that training alongside work can be demanding. Your wellbeing matters, and pastoral support is available throughout your course. Our team offers regular check-ins, open communication and access to Mental Health First Aiders within the teaching team.

If you’re finding things challenging, you’ll be encouraged to speak up — support is always available.

Additional Learning Support (SEND)

GVNC is committed to inclusive learning. If you have additional learning needs, we offer equitable and tailored support to help remove barriers to learning.

This may include access to an Additional Learning Support tutor, reasonable adjustments, individual learning plans and ongoing guidance — ensuring you’re supported academically and in practice so you can reach your full potential.
