Welcome to our new VN 0426 Cohort!
GVNC would like to welcome the L3 0426 cohort who have started their Level Diploma in Veterinary Nursing studies with us. They have settled into their cohort very well and are very supportive of each other.
Many of the students have study animal courses previously, many with us and collectively they have brought a variety of experiences from their backgrounds into the college.
We look forward to supporting you on your journey of becoming an RVN.
We’re excited to introduce our Student Council!
These students will be working behind the scenes to make college life even better. From running fun and meaningful fundraising events, to supporting careers opportunities and helping shape improvements to our college spaces and facilities, they’re here to make a real difference. Mental Health Awareness Week
During Mental Health Awareness Week (11–17 May 2026), students and staff came together to support the veterinary community by wearing green and fundraising for Vetlife 💚
Thanks to the generosity of our students and staff, we have currently raised an amazing £160 towards our £500 target! Every donation helps support the vital work Vetlife does for those in the veterinary profession.

📖 LEARNING HIGHLIGHTS
A trip to Hertfordshire Zoo
On the 26th March, our 0924 cohort visited Hertfordshire Zoo to learn about conservation, zoo marketing and habitat design/management. Guided by Chris Eley, the Head of conservation Education and an award-winning conservation photographer, they attended a talk highlighting the importance of fundraising and social media in conservation. This included looking at how funds are raised and utilised within the zoo and its sister location, The Big Cat Sanctuary, and how medias such as Instagram have been instrumental in public engagement. Both locations are known for their viral posts!
After the talk, Chris led us to a few of the different habitats seen around the part and emphasized the modifications made to each area to benefit the inhabitant and to rectify issues experienced. For example, a fish pool was installed against the viewing window of the tiger habitat, housing several fish species – this was the first big cat mixed species habitat in the UK, and serves as fantastic enrichment for the tigers while also preventing the younger public from banging on the glass and distressing the tigers. Don’t worry, the pool included many caves and tunnels for the fish to retreat to if the tigers decided to go fish!

Pride Month so far by Jesle
On behalf of the whole college, I wanted to say thank you for celebrating Pride so far this month. With all your colours, bakes, profiles, and flags, it means so much to the LGBTQIA+ community more than words can express!

Thank you to everyone who sent in their Pride profiles. They have honestly made the whole team smile with the thought and care you have put into them so thank you for sharing what Pride means to you, your words of wisdom, and inspiration. I FINALLY got around to making mine too!
While Pride Month is almost over, we want to encourage you to continue these conversations, acts of allyship, and to keep being inclusive and supportive students and professionals. Happy Pride all!
CPR Workshop
Jesle recently attended Goddard Vet Group’s Stone Lion Vet Hospital (SLVH) to deliver CPR CPD. There was a great turnout from neighboring clinics bringing together Vets, SVNs, RVNs, and VNAs team for valuable hands-on learning and refreshers on essential life-saving techniques.
It was a fantastic opportunity to build confidence, share knowledge, and strengthen teamwork across practices. A big thank you to SLVH for hosting us!
Pathology Padlet
The VN0425 cohort were tasked to create a comic series for a variety of musculoskeletal disorders and WOW!!! We were blown away with their characters, presentations and knowledge included. We recommended everyone keeps hold of these comics for revision! Well done team!!!
Animal Workshops
The GVNC L3 0425 Cohort participated in an animal handling and husbandry event on 20th May. The students were able to engage with a variety of animals, many of which would routinely be seen in general practice. The species ranged from, snakes, lizards, frogs, meerkats (which were not handled) and a tenrec, with many others.
The students learned about the environment the animals require, their diets, behaviour and correct handling techniques. They were also able to complete a mini health assessment on many of the animals, using a stethoscope to locate their hearts and record their findings. This activity provided an opportunity for them to increase and develop their knowledge of anatomy and physiology of these species.
Many thanks go to Mobile Zoo for providing this opportunity for our students and the knowledge they provided.
